Desynthesis is the process of taking items and breaking them down into their base materials. Caution is advised when undertaking desynthesis as it only allows for certain particularly resilient materials to be salvaged. Sometimes no materials will be salvaged and the original item is lost altogether. However when successful, it's very useful to gain a variety of crafting materials. Skill Ups can also occur while desynthesizing but they are rare and should not be relied upon when attempting to advance craft skill level.
Please note that not all items can be used in desynthesis. Some typical items that can be are:
Desynthesis works in exactly the same way as regular synthesis does. Adventurers combine the ingredients with the correct crystal and an item will be 'crafted'. However, the process of desynthesis usually has more failures than regular crafting, so it is recommended to use crafting supports which minimize your chances of losing the item if the desynthesis fails.
Such supports include:
Moghancement: Desynthesis is not just "recommended", but mandatory. A desynthesis that gives you NO successes after 8 tries without it, can suddenly change into a 4/8 success with it.
This exert has been copied over from retail wikipedia and it's accuracy requires testing. Moghancement: Desynthesis should improve your success rate but be aware that it may not increase it so drastcally.
Finally, unlike normal crafting, the chances of getting a High Quality result from Desynthesis is greatly increased compared to regular synthesis. Crafters can get a HQ1, 2, or even 3 while still being under the skill cap for the item! A high quality desynthesis allows the crafter to obtain the most useful and/or valuable part(s) of the item being broken down. Such a process can be particularly lucrative, especially in the case of certain pieces of Beastmen armor.
