Baits
Lures
Fishing Rods
There are two different types of fishing rods: wooden and synthetic, a durability rating has been given to the rods as well, with F being the lowest and S being highest.

- The information presented here is not totally accurate or complete, more information is needed. If you know accurate era related tables I would be greatly interested in seeing this information and I can edit the tables appropriately. Please contact me via profile here on this site. - Nebimonite I think that information is correct just my information said one thing and the wiki says another, just want to confirm it but I think it is listed correctly.
- Gold Carp Again my information said one thing, wiki said another so just want to confirm.
- Veydal Wrasse I had this yesterday which would put this under the Novice rank but looking at it's level I think it should be under Apprentice I'm not sure where it should be so just need to confirm it's current rank.
- Bait/Lure and Location are still work in progress, the information listed is just what other wikis say.

Need to be on Journeyman Rank to begin earning Fishing Guild Points.
Fish
Tips From The Trade
- Take your level, add 10 levels above, add your gear and you SiS and that is your target range.
Ex if you are level 14 and you have +4 in gear and +2 from SiS then your target range is 24 - 30.
You can go higher or lower than this level range but this is your target level "sweet spot".
- Get Advanced Synthesis Support every chance you get, it lasts for 2 hours and only costs 30 gil per rank so at it's max rank it only costs 300 gil, 30 gil is only 3 moat carps or 3 crayfish.
- Aim for the fish which is the safest and furthermost from your current level. (+4 gear) (+2 ASiS) (+10 fishing rod*(varies)) meaning you should be aiming for fish around 15 levels approximately above your current level.
- Keep reading the fish messages, if it doesn't say "good" doesn't matter if it's an item, a mob or another fish don't reel it in, it could risk breaking your line or worst your rod.
Editors Fishing Route
(a.k.a the cheap route)
- NOT RECOMMENDED
This fishing method is what I used to skill up to 100. If you learn only one thing from this method, then please learn from my mistakes. I used a Clothespole until level 80, I tried using a a Halcyon Fishing Rod someone lent me but I broke it on a Cobalt Jellyfish so I gave up and only changed fishing rods at level 80 because I couldn't catch Giant Catfish using this rod without the risk of my rod breaking, so I upgraded to a Composite Fishing Rod for the rest of the way.
Fish | Level | Size | Location | Information |
Bastore Sardine | 9 | Small | Port Windurst | I used a Sabiki Rig here, good for catching multiple of the same fish and every fish you aim for at this level will be higher so whatever you fish up will get you skill ups. |
Yellow Globe | 17 | Small | Qufim Island | Still using the Sabiki Rig I bought, I headed over to Qufim Island to fish up more multiples here. |
Cheval Salmon and Tricolored Carp |
21 and 27 | Small | East Ronfaure (River) | I picked up a Fly Lure from an NPC vendor and headed over here, I was aiming for the Cheval Salmon but I could also sometimes catch the Tricolored Carp here too, although they weren't very good thinking back on it. |
Dark Bass | 33 | Small | Carpenters' Landing (on the dock from the exit in Northern San d'Oria) | These seem to bite well to most lures here, I think Minnow is best, shame I was still using that Fly Lure. |
Shining Trout | 37 | Small | Carpenters' Landing (North) same spot as before (on the docks) | Hopefully I started to use a Minnow now since that's what you need to catch these. |
Black Eel | 47 | Small | Zeruhn Mines (River) | I fished on the bridge using a Worm Lure, I remember this been an expensive purchase for me at the time, as long as your not reckless with losing your baits or lures these pieces last a long time. |
Bluetail | 55 | Small | Qufim Island | Use that Minnow and you'll find the fish bite plentifully here. |
Elshimo Newt | 60 | Small | Yhoator Jungle (J-11) | These fish don't stack, how annoying, had to make lots of trips back and forth from town to the fishing spot. |
Crescent Fish | 69 | Small | East Sarutabaruta | At this point I was getting really impatient with the speed of my level ups and tried travelling around to many other fishing spots, mainly Nashmau. Soon but not yet. |
Zebra Eel | 71 | Small | Den of Rancor (map 9) (E-8) |
This wasn't that hard to get to as you might think however it was my introduction in to Sneak fishing. Fun times. |
Kayabaligi | 75 | Small | Al Zahbi | - |
Bastore Bream | 86 | Small | Port Windurst | I didn't think these were as bad as every said. |
Ahtapot | 90 | Large | Nashmau | Nice little profit went sold to an NPC but I didn't like catching them, plus it's a long journey to get out there. |
Black Sole | 96 | Small | Lower Jeuno | I think this is as good as it gets, tons of fishing spots, NPC for as good as the fish in Nashmau and a lot closer too. |
Armored Pisces | 110 | Large | Oldton Movalpolos | - |
As you can see I caught a lot of small fish because small fish stack (most of the time) but if I were to do this over again, I would definitely use a different fishing rod and would've gone to a few other fishing spots along the way. Oh and I definitely would've used (ASiS), really there was no reason not too, just being cheap.
Target Fish Route
For this route I am going to assume you have fishing gear +4 and advanced Synthesis Support (ASiS) +2 at all times. I will give you a target level to reach and the fish your going after, you could fish on these fish for longer but I will suggest another fish for you to aim for around 5-6 levels before the fish level.
This route will be based on the assumption that you have and are using a Composite Fishing Rod or better.
Fish | Target Level | Fish Level | Location | Information |
Greedie | 8 | 14 | Misareaux Coast | If you can't get here just do Moat Carps instead, early levels, doesn't really matter too much what you catch. |
Cheval Salmon | 15 | 21 | East Ronfaure | - |
Pipira | 23 | 29 | Windurst Waters | I feel like this is oddly over looked but a good fish to skill up on. |
Ogre Eel (Option A) |
31 | 35 | West Sarutabaruta | I am going to give you some options, simply because this fish is common and easy to catch but the next fish is higher and not bad either. |
Shining Trout (Option B) |
33 | 37 | Carpenters' Landing (North) | - |
Black Eel (Option A) |
44 | 47 | Zeruhn Mines | - |
Icefish (Option B) |
44 | 49 | Beaucedine Glacier (Pond) |
I haven't tried skilling up fishing here but I feel like I missed out, I think here would be a great spot and right next to the Oupost too. |
Elshimo Newt | 54 | 60 | Yhoator Jungle (J-11) | Honestly, I don't know if I even should recommend this one, you'll hate me for it, they don't stack and that sucks but it's at the right level. |
Crescent Fish | 63 | 69 | East Sarutabaruta (Lake) | No, you can't go to Nashmau yet, shut up and keep going. |
Kayabaligi (Option A) |
70 | 75 | Al Zahbi | Not everyone has access to Lufaise Meadows luckily that fish has a twin fish right here in Al Zahbi. |
Tavnazian Goby (Option B) |
70 | 75 | Lufaise Meadows | - |
Bastore Bream (Option A) |
80 | 86 | Port Windurst | Decision time, poor bite rate or long commute, your choice. |
Mercanbaligi (Option B) |
80 | 86 | Nashmau | NPC for a nice price. |
Black Sole | 90 | 96 | Qufim Island | No more options, your on the home stretch now, these sell rarely on the AH but NPC for a nice price. |
Armored Pisces | 100 | 110 | Oldton Movalpolos | - |
Despite what I say and suggest, you actually have more options than you might think. Just remember to have fun.
Exotic Fish Route
Lu Shangs and The Ebisu
Are these rods worth the time and effort to get them, well, no there not. If your goal is to get fishing to 100 then you do not need a Lu Shang's Fishing Rod.
However if your goal is to get an Ebisu Fishing Rod then you MUST get a Lu Shang's Fishing Rod.
There are 102 fish that are within era that you can catch, you can catch 90 of those 102 fish without needing these legendary fishing rods however if your going to catch those last 12 fish then you need to get one of these fishing rods.
There are a few ways to go about getting one, the first method is to just buy one of someone or from the AH and I would estimate the minimum asking price should be only a mere 2.5M for a Lu Shang's Fishing Rod.
You might think that is a bit expensive but actually it could end up being cheaper than the alternative.
Method 2: cut out the middle man and just buy the fish you need the fishing rod for off the AH and trade them in to Zaldon in Selbina for the Key Items, simply right? Well the odds of the Key Items dropping for each of the two legendary fish is a mere 0.4% each and one fish could sell for as little as 10k per fish.
It's possible you might get both Key Items very quickly and only spend 20k total but since some people can go over 1k+ on fish before they get both Key Items, this method could end up costing you approximately 10M for each fish.
Needless to say most people can't afford this option, so most go for the 3 method, completing the quest The Rivalry/The Competition.
If you are willing to go down this road, then you will need to know that you will need 10k fish to complete this quest and to do that you will need to trade 833 stacks of moat carp plus four to complete this quest. So if your going to fish for these fish, then here are all the places you can go to get them.
