Historical Background

This was one of the treasures the dragon Fafnir horded. It was a magic sword. In the Völsung cycle, Ridill is the sword with which Fáfnir (according to Fáfnismál) or Sigurðr (according to Völsunga saga, 19) cuts out Reginn's heart after he was killed.
