Just Released 03NOV2007 from the Altana Festival in Osaka:

Q: Do multiple instances of Treasure Hunter in a single party increase the chances of a drop? When exactly does the effect of Treasure Hunter take place?

A: When more than one member has Treasure Hunter, the player with the strongest version will have theirs take effect for the party. The effect comes into play as soon as the Thief generates enmity from the target enemy. Even if the Thief dies, the effect remains.

Myths & Needed Testing

There are many myths regarding Treasure Hunter. Here is a list of some of them. If these were proven to be true then this page should be edited to reflect that.

  • Despite rumors to the contrary, so long as a thief is in the party, and in the same zone, Treasure Hunter is always active for all mob kills, regardless of who lands the killing blow. This has been revealed in many interviews with SE representatives. No action, or lack of action, on the part of the thief will affect this trait, short of equipping gear that Enhances "Treasure Hunter" effect.
  • Tests show that Treasure Hunter will not take effect if the Thief is out of Experience Points range, the mob does not need to give experience points, the Thief just has to be within a certain distance. Exampe:If the Thief receives the "You are too far from battle to gain experience points" message, Treasure Hunter will not take effect.
  • There have been several tests that reveal "Treasure Hunter +1" items add approximately 1% to the drop rate of any given item. Verification Needed
